Noirmoutier Island and the city of Noirmoutier-en-l'île

This splendid visitor friendly Noirmoutier island lies off the coast at Beauvoir-sur-Mer, on the other side of the Passage du Gois. This passage is passable at low tide. In 1971, a bridge was built at Fromantine, so that it is now also possible to reach the island at high water by car. The many blue and white house give the island a Greek atmosphere. The best place to see this is in the town of "Noirmoutier-en-île". In early spring the whole island is brightened by yellow blossom of the mimosa trees which also perfume the air. This blossom usually appears as early as February thanks to an exceptionally mild winter climate. The island’s fertile reclaimed land produces the acclaimed “Pommes de Terre de Noirmoutier” (delicious new potatoes).

With its splendid pine-forests and marsh land to walk in and around and its lively summer ambiance in the small villages on the island, it is an island which is worth a visit in every season of the year.
